Meet Contributor Chelsea Asplund
Chelsea Asplund leads Seattle Greenlaker’s social media and is a lifestyle contributor for the site. You’ll be hearing more from Chelsea on neighborhood happenings, but before you do, here’s a little about her:
What’s your favorite part about living in Green Lake?
I’ve lived in Green Lake for about a year, and I love that the neighborhood is its own little world. Once you’re here, it’s so easy to forget you live in a city. Green Lake is such a relaxing yet lively neighborhood. The lake just makes you want to get outside and be active.
Why do you enjoy social media so much?
I think it started when I was a preteen and discovered Xanga and my painful desire to chronicle my 12-year-old thoughts. Then eventually MySpace came and it was downhill from there. Now we’re in the Facebook-Twitter-Instagram-Vine-Snapchat world and I just eat it all up. I think what it comes down to is I love to communicate. I work in PR, and find it so fascinating how the channels have changed our industry — and journalism especially. I also speak in hash tags.
You are a self-proclaimed pop cultureist – explain what that means.
I’ve always had an affinity for pop culture – celebrities, television, movies, you name it. I blame my subscriptions to Teen People and Entertainment Weekly growing up. I have a weird talent of sorts where I can name almost any celebrity at the drop of a hat. I’m “that girl” who friends turn to and say “Who is that? They look so familiar.” I can probably tell you their name and what they’re most famous for in five seconds – even if it’s a commercial from 10 years ago. My brain just works that way. Oh, and Oscar Sunday is my favorite holiday.
Say it’s the weekend, where would we be most likely to find you (asked, in a non-creepy way of course!)
I spend a lot of time between Poulsbo and Seattle, but if I’m in Green Lake on the weekend it depends on the weather. Saturday mornings I’m usually grabbing a latte and walking Green Lake. The lake just calls for you. If a week or so goes by and I haven’t been to it, I immediately feel guilty. Green Lake just does that to you, and it’s a great thing.
What’s your favorite Green Lake hidden gem?
I live on the northeast side of the lake, so I have to say grabbing a “margarita of the day” at Rositas. Also Jodeee’s Desserts – her Green Lake Glow smoothie is my favorite.
