More graffiti news, but this time, it’s a happier story. The underpass at 63rd St and Aurora Ave N. is slated to get a new mural thanks to the help of a group of community members who formed the 63rd Street Mural project. The group received a grant from the City of Seattle to create new artwork from a local artist. That location previously housed a mural in the 90s but a few years ago was destroyed by graffiti and has since been painted over.

The group has narrowed the designs of the mural down to three designs.

The Phinneywood blog just posted about the mural with photos (much better than ours), where to vote and how to get involved.

Here’s the upcoming places and dates to vote:

  • 5/29 – Umpqua Bank, 7120 Greenwood Ave N from 9 am to 6 pm
  • 5/30 – Umpqua Bank, 7120 Greenwood Ave N from 9 am to 6 pm
  • 5/30 – Bingo Karaoke, 525 N 85th Street, from 7 pm to 10 pm
  • 5/31 – PNA Garden Party, Phinney Center, 6532 Phinney Ave N, from 9 am to 1 pm

The mural is scheduled to be installed July 19-27.
