The Infamous Corgis of Green Lake
They’re short. They’re pudgy. They’re an adorable dog breed known for their stocky figure, googly eyes and a larger than life personality. And on the occasional Saturday morning you may see as many as 50 of them trotting around Green Lake. These are the infamous Green Lake corgis – or more formally – the members of “Corgis R Us.”
The Kirkland-based meet up group is an official affiliate of MeetUp.com, an online, community network for social groups. Sprinkled throughout the greater Seattle area and as far north as Canada, the group of nearly 650 members are united by one commonality: their love for corgis. On various weekends the group flocks to different parks, such as the Off-Leash Dog Park at the Edmonds waterfront to the Game Farm Park in Auburn. The group also plans various events such as picnics and birthday parties throughout the year. But on the second Saturday of every month (weather permitting) you’ll find the gang at Green Lake.
We met up with the corgis and their owners earlier this month, as they assembled near the boat dock around 10 a.m. Much like the runners and bystanders passing by, we were too infatuated with the overzealous corgis and couldn’t resist joining in on their trail walk. We want to give a big thank you to the corgi owners and group organizer Kathy Losacco for letting us join in on the fun!
