Mockingbird Books is hosting a We Need Diverse Books book drive.

The Green Lake bookstore recently partnered with Treehouse, a local nonprofit that serves 7,000 foster youth annually with many services including a free store for caregivers to “shop.” Unfortunately, diverse books tend to be a hard commodity. According to the non-profit only 10 percent of American children’s books include diverse characters.

Throughout the month of February, Mockingbird Books will have a display in their store that showcases some of the diverse books that are available for purchase. A donation station has also been set up where these purchased books can be donated to Treehouse.

Then, at the end of the month Mockingbird Books will host a special diverse storytime with Treehouse on Friday Feb 27th at 11:00am. The event is free and open to all ages.

Mockingbird Books is located at 7220 Woodlawn Ave NE. For more information, call (206)518-5886.
