Writing Classes in (and near) Green Lake

We are starting to collect summer camp opportunities that we will broadcast in the next few week, but in the meantime, we’ve come across several creative writing and writing prep classes that are in Green Lake this summer.

“Writing What You Know”: A Workshop Series For Anyone With A Story

This class is for adults looking to give experiences voice, structure, and meaning. Open to poets and prose writers of all backgrounds. Whether your goal is to improve your craft or to rediscover a love of words, share your story in this class.
Weekly topics will include: Turning Points (“How do you show a revelation occurring?”), Allowing Fiction (“How do you play with time and perspective to tell your truth?”), Contextualizing the Personal (“How do you draw out your personal experience’s social relevance?”), Humor (“So hard!”), and so much more!

When: 8 weeks, Wednesdays, 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm. 8 July – 26 August 2015. Join for all 8 sessions – or pay for a month and pick 4 sessions at your convenience.
Where: 409 NE 70th St., Seattle, WA.

‘Write Away! Seattle Youth Writers’ Workshop’

Participants: High schoolers (9th – 12th grade)
When: Week-long session, M-F, 1:30-4:30 pm
August 3rd – 7th
August 10th – 14th
Fee: $225.00

Focus: A fun, intensive writing workshop designed to engage students in a creative mixture of descriptive, analytical, and critical styles. Through in-class feedback, rich examples of forms, and thought-provoking prompts, students will learn to find their voice, use sensory details, and explore universal themes in organized, peer-edited essays.

College Personal Statement Writing Workshop

Participants: High schoolers (11th – 12th grade)

Timeframe: Week-long session, M-Th, 11:30 am – 1:30 pm
June 22nd – 25th

Fee: $185.00

Focus: Get a head start on college personal statement essays! This workshop will focus on creating drafts of college personal statements, with detailed feedback on ideas and drafts. Bring your lunch and get ready to brainstorm and write in a focused, supportive atmosphere!

College Essays and Application Workshop

Participants: High schoolers (9th – 12th grade)

Timeframe: Week-long session, M-F, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm
August 3rd – 7th
August 10th – 14th
Fee: $225.00

Focus: Get a head start on college essays and the entire application process! We will help students create application accounts, choose essay topics, and develop drafts. Guidance on college-appropriate content and styles will be provided in a focused and supportive environment.

Artist’s Way Classes: Creative Writing

Tap into your creative side which can benefit many parts of your lives. The 2 hour a week 12 week long class will take students through the 12 chapters with an emphasis on the accompanying chapter exercises and additional creativity exercises and strategies.

Julia Cameron uses 3 basic tools for students to enhance their lives and their creativity: morning pages (writing 3 pages longhand of stream of consciousness writing), artist’s dates (solo fun dates with yourself) and completing creativity exercises at the back of each chapter. To quote Julia, “In order to retrieve your creativity, you need to find it.” The basic tools and the additional creativity exercises incorporated into the 12 week course are designed to help you do just that. No prerequisites required for this class. 11 students maximum.
