Green Lake’s Latest Catch
I’ve always wondered what it looks like when the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife stock the lake with fish. Thanks to reader Garet, for snapping these photos and sending them our way!
Last Thursday Green Lake was one of 20 lakes that received one and a half pound large rainbow trout from the WDFW. Statewide, 20,000 fish were stocked in lakes in anticipation of Father’s Day weekend.
Here’s more from Garet:
“WDFW put 3,500 hatchery raised fish into Green Lake yesterday. 1,500 of the fish were large catchable size fish 15″ to 17″. Remaining were smaller 10″ or so. At least one of the smaller fish was immediately caught at the dock. It was released by fisherman saying it was too small to take home. All of the fish are Rainbow trout.
Clark at the Green Lake Boat rentals reported that he had just received a new shipment of worms for bait, and of course he has boats to rent if anyone wants to get out to the middle of the lake for fishing.
This is the fourth straight year that WDFW has planting local lakes with the catchable size trout just before the Father’s Day week end.
Ospreys have been fishing at Green Lake for the past week or so and will be around to partake of the replenished supply of fish in the lake. Perhaps the cormorants will learn of the fish and return to fish for the smaller trout that were planted in the lake.”
