Super Jock N Jill Celebrates 40 years in Green Lake
Green Lake’s original running store, Super Jock N Jill, is turning 40 this month. When the store opened women runners were few and far between. Back then Green lake was a quiet neighborhood with VitaMilk, Albertsons and Gregg’s Green Lake Cycle being the major stores in the area. Super Jock N Jill’s store opened a week before the 1975 Seattle Marathon, just a day after Thanksgiving. Founder Laurel James worked in the neighborhood and decided that she wanted to open a running store, so she found a location right across the street from Gregg’s Cycles. While she sold the store to her son in 1997, she is still called the Godmother of Green Lake. Check out her interview on KING 5.
