An inspirational project is going on right now in Green Lake thanks to a group of 4th and 5th graders at Daniel Bagley Elementary School. It’s called the South Sudan project and it started when the class read a book called A Long Walk to Water, about the struggles to get basic needs such as water in war torn Sudan.

One of the main characters in the book, Salva Dut, started an organization called Water for South Sudan.  The class is trying to raise $6000 to build a well in South Sudan through this organization.  The goal is $6,000 by April and as of press time for this article they were a bit over half way!

If you would like to donate, visit the class’s donation page here.

Some of the donors have some very inspiring stories of their own like this one: “I work for Group Health Hospice playing the harp for patients at their bedside. Last night after a session the husband of my patient gave me a generous tip. I tried to decline it but he insisted and said, “Please, take it and pay it forward.” I’d like to make this donation in honor and memory of this man’s wife.”
