A good friend once told me, “make sure you do things on Friday nights even if you are dog tired after work. It will help to make the weekend feel even longer.” And she was right. I highly recommend it. And if you are looking for a fun Friday night activity I have one that is close to home and for those that want to be super active or just watch as others are. The Seattle Canoe and Kayak Club hosts a Duck Island Race (just about) every Friday night in the summertime. According to the club “all human-powered paddle craft are welcome.”

The race starts at Green Lake Small Craft Center (GLSCC) and goes around Duck island before returning to the docks at the GLSCC. All are welcome whether you want to compete against a friend, make new ones or try for a personal record.

The 100m knock-off races start at 6:15pm.  The race around Duck Island (ca 1.75km) starts at 6:45pm.

After the race the SCKC hosts a BBQ where hot dogs and veggie dogs are provided. Racers are invited to bring a potluck item to share.

If you want to participate you can register online for free.

Upcoming race nights include: August 11, 18 and 25.
