A quick update about the Duck Island restoration project.
After the illegal skate bowl was removed in August, the Parks Department said the next step would be do restore and maintain the island that was damaged by the concrete structure. This week the Seattle Parks Department began work with Green Seattle Partnership to restore the space.
The Green Seattle Partnership will assign a forest steward, a volunteer position, to Duck Island to do ongoing maintenance and restoration, which Parks officials tells us means the restoration and ongoing maintenance will go on indefinitely.
The area was designated as a wildlife sanctuary in 1956 and remains closed to human visitors.
