The group Justice For Black Lives has organized a Juneteenth March for Justice tomorrow at 10 a.m. starting at Woodland Park Playground (Phinney Ave N & N 59th St). The event commemorates the freedom of slaves in Texas who were freed two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.

Sharing a beautiful and precise drawing of the historic Green Lake library building by Seattle artist (and my mom!) Valerie Margulis.

Her piece was selected for the Historic Seattle & Georgetown Art Attack show. The Green Lake Library is one of the few remaining Carnegie Libraries that is still serving its original purpose. You can see her piece, and more by other Seattle artists on December 14th in Georgetown.

Nice work, mom!

The Great Wallingford Wurst Fest
This Octoberfest style end-of-summer celebration is a fundraiser for the St. Benedict School. Now in its 35th year, the festival started as a small fundraiser for the school but has grown to a huge party with 10,000 visitors. The Wurst Festival features inflatable rides, an array of delicious foods, games for kids of all ages, craft booths, homemade sweets, a book sale, a Biergarten, a raffle, plus live entertainment on an outdoor stage.

Note: The Biergarten is open until Midnight on Friday and Saturday and features live musical entertainment.

Are you looking for something to do this weekend? Perhaps volunteering? Our friends over at Love Licton and Trees for Seattle are hosting an event this weekend. Here’s what they sent us:

Help neighbors clean up the gateway to the community! Meet at the intersection of N 85th St and Meridian Ave N on Saturday, October 6th from 9AM to noon. Volunteers will be removing the invasive weeds that threaten the area’s beautiful trees. This is a great opportunity to make your mark on a landscape that needs some love while connecting with friends and neighbors. No experience necessary. Tools, gloves, snacks, and instruction are provided. Please dress for the weather and wear close-toed shoes.

You may have seen the little signs around Green Lake Park for Green Seattle Day. The Green Seattle Partnership and Seattle Parks and Recreation are coordinating a team of hundreds of volunteers to plant thousands of plants throughout Seattle parks. While Green Lake Park isn’t one of the designated parks, there are several that are close to Green Lake, including:

• Discovery Park
• Golden Gardens Park
• Magnuson Park
• Meadowbrook Park
• Woodland Park

Events begin at 9 a.m. at 15 park sites across Seattle. No experience is necessary. Tools, gloves, plants, coffee, snacks and instruction will be provided. Sign up to participate in a Green Seattle Day location here: https://www.greenseattle.org/get-involved/green-seattle-day/.

Sunshine Music Together recently moved to The NEST (Greenlake) (6600 1st Avenue NE) where it will hold its Fall classes. The seven time Golden Teddy Award Winner for Best Music Program in Seattle is taking registrations now for their fall session.

This two day celebration is an annual event that includes live music, food, rides, games and more. Proceeds goes to St. Benedict’s Catholic School.
